Porcelain Dental Veneers Surrey

If you are looking to improve your smile with a smile makeover or just want to cover some imperfections, then dental veneers may be your answer. Veneers are wafer-thin laminates of porcelain that are fitted over the front surfaces of your teeth, almost like a false fingernail – but for your teeth. The animations below illustrate this clearly.

Here at Mulberry Dental in the heart of Surrey, we have gained an international reputation for transforming smiles with porcelain veneers. We offer an airport pick-up service and five-star hotel package for those flying into London for treatment.

Some of the most common problems we treat with porcelain veneers are:

  • Covering discoloured teeth

  • Repairing badly worn, chipped or broken teeth

  • Straightening slightly crooked teeth

  • Closing spaces (diastemas) between your teeth

  • Transforming your smile with a smile makeover

What Are the Advantages of Veneers?

There are many benefits of veneers:

  • Natural Appearance

Ultra-thin porcelain veneers are extremely natural-looking. You can also choose the colour of your veneers which can make darker teeth appear whiter. Whether you have one veneer or a whole set, they are specially designed to blend in with the rest of your smile for a natural, healthy appearance.

  • Easily Implemented

Gum tissue tolerates porcelain well, so dental veneers are easily attached to the teeth with little fuss. The process only takes a couple of visits to the dentist, so you’ll be leaving with a brand new smile in no time.

  • Stain Resistant

Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to coffee, tea and even cigarette stains which may otherwise have stained your natural teeth. This means they’re more likely to stay in good condition for longer.

  • Durable

The veneer is strongly bonded to your existing tooth, which just needs to be filed down. They will be made from the highest quality porcelain and fixed with strong glue-like bonding agents. Because they’re strongly bonded you’re also able to chew and eat normally. When looked after properly, veneers can last for well over a decade.

The Procedure

The first step to getting veneers is a consultation. Here, you’ll outline your expectations, including colour, size and shape of the teeth. From this, the dentist can advise on the best course of action moving forward.

If you’ve decided you want to go ahead with veneers, the next step is preparation. A thin layer of enamel will be removed from the tooth being treated to ensure the final look is as natural as possible. Usually, this means around 0.5mm of enamel is removed. If only a small amount of drilling is required, local anaesthetic may not be necessary.

The dentist will then take an impression of your teeth to get the size and shape right, which is used to create your veneers.

Once the veneers are ready, the dentist will check the size before attaching them to your teeth individually. The colour of the tooth can be altered by using different shades of the bonding agent.

When the dental veneers are fitted, you can expect to experience some mild discomfort as your gums adjust to the veneers but this should disappear soon after.

Looking After Dental Veneers

Taking care of your dental veneers is easy. Brush your teeth with a non-abrasive toothpaste and floss as you normally would. Sometimes, patients experience some sensitivity after treatment. This is normal, and it usually subsides after one or two weeks.

What’s more, regularly visiting the dentist will ensure your wonderful smile is well looked after in the years to come.

Ultra-Thin Lumineers Veneers

We also offer Lumineers veneers, which are slightly thinner than laboratory-made veneers at approximately 0.2mm. This means they need little or no preparation of your teeth. Just as with classic porcelain veneers, they can be used to treat discoloured, chipped or broken teeth.

Lumineers are not suitable for everyone and only a few patients can really benefit from having them, so please discuss with the dentist if you’re thinking about getting Lumineers veneers. All Lumineers veneers are fabricated in California.

FAQs

Are veneers permanent?
Veneers are not permanent. Just like your natural teeth, they can chip or break, so they may need to be replaced. However, if looked after properly, they can last for over 10 years.

How much do veneers cost?
The cost of veneers can vary greatly from patient to patient. Porcelain veneers are of higher quality, meaning they’re more natural-looking and last far longer than composite veneers. Therefore, they can be more expensive.

Will they get rid of the gap in my front teeth?
Yes, veneers can be cleverly placed to cover up any gaps in your teeth that may have been a cause of embarrassment.

Are veneers reversible?
Porcelain veneers are a commitment for life. Once the enamel has been removed from your teeth, there is no way to get it back. However, ultra-thin Lumineers veneers require no preparation of the tooth, so you can revert back to your natural teeth if you choose.

How long does the process take?
Veneers are usually fitted in two stages, which means two trips to the dentist. The first is when your teeth are filed down and the shape, colour and size are matched. During the second appointment, the veneers are fitted.

Is there an alternative to dental veneers?
If your desire is to whiten your teeth, then it may be better to opt for a teeth whitening treatment rather than committing to veneers. You can discuss this in further detail during a consultation with the dentist.
