Gummy Smile? Get Rid!

Gums are unsung heroes when it comes to winning smiles. Showing off too much pink (or too little) when you are at your happiest can result in the dreaded ‘gummy smile.’

If you have the misfortune of having high or uneven gums, you’ll know how difficult it is to show off your best side – even when you feel like a million dollars.

Our patients often tell tales of shying away from photographs and discreetly covering their mouths rather than show their gummy smile to the world.

The Mulberry Dental Clinic offers a simple cosmetic procedure to reshape gums and give them a more natural appearance. Gum contouring – sometimes referred to as the gum lift – gets rid of gummy smiles for good. We can use it to treat high gums, uneven and receding gums in less than an hour.

  • Reduces high gums
  • Reshapes uneven gums
  • Gets rid of ‘gummy smiles’
  • Surgical or laser procedure
  • Fast & comfortable treatment
  • Smile with confidence again

Laser & Surgical Gum Contouring

We offer two types of contouring, carried out under local anaesthetic for your comfort.

Laser Gum Lifts

Our precision laser gum contouring reshapes uneven gums and seals the gum line, leaving nowhere for problem bacteria to hide. With treatment completed in around an hour followed by a short recovery period, the laser gum lift is our quickest and most comfortable option for getting rid of gummy smiles.

Surgical Gum Lifts

Depending on the severity of your condition, our periodontal team may opt for a surgical alternative to laser gum lifting. We’ll reshape the gums with a quick surgical procedure carried out under local anaesthetic and seal the gum line with dental sutures.

The Mulberry Gum Lift – What to Expect

Gum contouring is a quick and relatively painless procedure. We can usually complete treatment in 20 minutes to an hour. We’ll administer a local anaesthetic before getting started, so that you won’t feel a thing.

After leaving the clinic, you may feel some sensitivity and soreness. These usually lasts for no longer than  a week and can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Just ask your dentist for a recommendation.

In the days following the procedure, you’ll need to look after your teeth as you would usually, taking care not to irritate the gums when brushing and flossing. We recommend using a soft-bristled toothbrush and avoiding hard foods for a while.
