Gums may recede a little, causing the appearance of gaps at the top of the teeth, whilst the teeth themselves can become cracked and discolored.

Not the prettiest of reading true, but it isn’t the end of the world, because if you notice this happening, you can get it all covered up in Surbiton with a little dental bonding. It’s a cheap little trick to hide all of these sins and it can be done in just a single sitting.

Your teeth are cleaned so that a first layer of resin can be applied to the surface of the teeth and then ‘set’ with the use of a heat source. This is repeated quite a few times- at least until there is enough material to work with- then your dentist will shape the resin into the desired shape, before highly polishing the finished article.

The resin will be colour coded to match the rest of your teeth, so they will not stand out. The good thing is that if your have any problems in the future, you can go back and have a touch-up. It is the versatility of the treatment and its speed that makes dental bonding very popular to those of us on the go. However, they can also be porous and suceptible to staining, but if you watch what you put in the mouth and cut down the fags, coffee and wine you will get a lot of mileage from your dental bonding.

The tooth may be tender to the touch and hurt when there is a sudden change in temperature. You may also get a fever, but you know you are in trouble when your face starts to swell, which is when you should seek immediate action, as the condition can become life threatening in some cases.

If you can’t see a dentist, you should find a doctor and if it means going to the hospital, so be-it. The abscess can only be attacked and treated once you have been given antibiotics to stop the blood from becoming poisoned and to reduce the swelling.

Once the abscess has gone, your dentist can get to work on you. One of the biggest causes of this condition is tooth decay, so there is a good chance you will need a root canal and then have your gums cleaned, as well as your tooth deep below the gum-line.

The problem with an abscess is that they never really do go away and can flare up again at anytime, which means the only way to stop this from happening is to have the tooth removed. Of course prevention is better than cure and if you have had a problem with an abscess, it means that you are not looking after your teeth well enough and so should re-think your personal oral hygiene.

Are you doing the right thing, using the right stuff? Well you will find out from your dentist soon enough when you next visit and you are having the odd filling and some pretty harsh cleaning and polishing done because this should be a sign in itself that you are doing something wrong, and while you are there, you should ask your dentist what you are doing wrong and pick up a few new tips. Oral hygiene starts with your brush and if you get the right one from the off, you will be on your way to healthy teeth: shop around and be patient until you get the right one. Then, there are the toothpastes to choose from and again it can be a bit of ‘try it and see’ before you get it right. But this is not enough anymore, so you need to floss as well to remove food and stuff from the places your toothbrush can’t get to; tiny inter-dental, hand held brushes are also good for this. And finally when you rinse, rinse with a fine mouthwash as well as some of these are great for killing any left over bacteria. Persevere and you will manage to keep your teeth wonderfully healthy and avoid any unnecessary problems that plaque could lead to in the future.

Oral hygiene is such an important routine we should study and learn to master in order to maintain the health of our teeth and gums. And there really is no excuse for messing this up, seeing as we not only have the luxury of our dentist to sound out, but we can find out everything we need to know on the internet as well. Once the basics of brushing and flossing has been practiced to precision and we can do it with our eyes shut, then it’s just a matter of finding the right tools for the job and the products that suit your mouth. Get the right brush first, manual or electric and then get the right toothpaste- and then back it up with a good floss to get deep into the places brushes fear to tread. And if that’s not enough, follow that up with those tiny brushes in the shops that slid effortlessly between the teeth and gums and a good mouthwash and you will be laughing all the way to dental heaven- who says that dentists are not expendable eh?

You should be brushing and flossing your teeth at least twice a day. Any left over sugar on your teeth from the foods and drinks you consume feed bad bacteria in your mouth and begin to dissolve the hard surface of your teeth. Properly brushing and flossing at least twice a day helps defend your teeth from decay, cavities, and gum disease. Flossing before you brush allows your fluoride toothpaste to reach more places in your mouth for a better clean. When you floss, shape the floss in a c-shape around each tooth and do be careful to not snap the floss against your gums as this will cause trauma to the soft tissue. Brush your teeth with a soft bristled brush. Don’t forget to brush your tongue, where food particles and plaque get also get trapped. Be sure you are using a reliable fluoride toothpaste. If you want further tips and recommendations for brands of toothbrushes, floss, and toothpaste, consult your dentist in Weybridge who will be more than happy to advise you. Brushing and flossing are vital to maintaining your oral health. As important as it is to brush and floss at least twice a day, don’t forget to visit your dentist at least twice a year as well.

Thankfully, levels of awareness when it comes to oral hygiene are pretty high in the United Kingdom but it is always worth reminding yourself of what is involved when it comes to having a healthy and functioning mouth.

Probably the main factor involved in your oral hygiene is how you physically take care of your teeth. You should brush your teeth with a tooth brush, tooth paste and a little water, at least twice a day. But there is more to it than that. You should be brushing every area of your mouth so that plaque does not remain on any area of your teeth at all. The tooth paste you use should be fortified with fluoride and your tooth brush ought not to have frayed bristles and it should be comfortable to hold also.

Make the right dietary considerations so that you are not exposing your mouth to too much plaque and are attaining a general level of health that can give your immune system a boost. Remember that you can always brush after a sugary snack even if you have already brushed that morning.

The results of good oral hygiene are that teeth are strong and free from cavities. The layer of enamel that coats teeth should be robust from the fluoride you use and thus able to withstand acidic plaque. Your gums ought to be a healthy shade of pink and not feel too sensitive when you eat or drink things that are hot or cold.

Get your dentist in Weybridge involved so that your mouth can be regularly looked over by a trained expert.

However, whilst on the subject of the dentist, this is the best starting point for advice. Oral hygiene starts with ensuring that you get the right brush you need and that you know how to use it. That might sound silly, but it’s incredible how many people still have problems brushing their teeth; your dentist knows your mouth, they seen it, worked on it, been inside it- so they’re are perfect to chat to about getting the right brush i.e., there’s no point getting a hard bristled brush if you have sensitive teeth and gums, etc, etc, your dentist can set you straight on this. Then it’s down to personal preference and, a little bit of trial and error before you get it exactly right. Most popular today are the incredible selection of electric brushes- some pulse, some go up and down, others round and round, but whatever one you opt for, they are very efficient and take all of the hard work out of brushing. One thing is very important about brushes and that’s the bristles. These should be cleaned after brushing to prevent the build up of bacteria, and it is widely agreed in dental circles, that they be changed after about 6 months.

Shocking, well maybe not so, because do you ever really remember anyone showing you how to clean your teeth? Still, in today’s world, there really is no excuse for it. You will find a demonstration on the internet somewhere if you still have problems, but with what you can buy in supermarkets and chemists, there are some fantastic toothbrushes around, especially electric ones that make the process easier to do than ever and that get into places where a generation ago, brushes feared to tread. But also, unlike a generation ago, there’s a whole array of extras to help you get the job done too. Flosses and small inter-dental brushes are designed to remove food and bacteria from between the teeth and are there to accompany the brushing process. Then, there are pastes and powders for every occasion, from some designed to remove plaque specifically, to stain removers and whitening- others for more sensitive teeth that actually help to preserve the enamel on the teeth and are understanding on the gums. And let’s not forget mouthwashes too. Surely with these products around, tooth decay should be on the decline? And then of course, there is also the dentist to sound off to for advice.

This is valuable advice because it means that patients won’t have to think about going to the surgery for invasive procedures which could easily have been avoided if only better care had been taken in the first place.

The point of taking measures to protect oral hygiene is to prevent dental ailments from happening rather than treating them once they have taken hold. A key part of this is the removal of plaque from teeth. This acidic substance is unavoidably formed once you have eaten sugary and starchy foods and drinks. The problem with plaque is that it begins to break down the tough layer of enamel which coats teeth for protection.

The best way to remove this plaque is to brush your teeth with a tooth brush and a fluoride tooth paste. Floss as well so that the plaque cannot hang around between the teeth and start to cause cavities and gum disease.

Going to see your dentist every six months is just as important as the care you take of teeth at home. Giving a trained dental expert the chance to thoroughly look over the state of your mouth means that any problems can be diagnosed and treated early. You might just be avoiding the need to have some time-consuming surgery further down the line.

So make an appointment to see your Surbiton dentist as soon as possible. They can give your mouth the once-over and tell you all about what you need to do to secure many years of oral hygiene that reaches the highest standards.

It’s never been easier to care for your teeth- there are some fantastic products on the market designed for all facets of oral hygiene, and if you have any doubts, consult your dentist first. The rules are simple- you are trying to prevent the buildup of plaque as this leads to tooth decay and gum disease. Nip this in the bud and you’ll be laughing…literally! Brushing and flossing at least twice a day, especially after eating should ensure that bacteria are removed from the teeth. Mouth-washes can help here too. Getting the right brush and toothpaste is essential for this daily routine, so you may have to do a little experimentation first before you get it right. You should also get your brushing technique right too, to ensure you are getting into the right areas. A consultation with a hygienist is good at this point, because not only will they help you with your technique, they can also enlighten you in to a whole new world of looking after your teeth, a world tailored to you, your teeth and your gums. Nail this and your mouth will be healthy forever.
