Gums may recede a little, causing the appearance of gaps at the top of the teeth, whilst the teeth themselves can become cracked and discolored.

Not the prettiest of reading true, but it isn’t the end of the world, because if you notice this happening, you can get it all covered up in Surbiton with a little dental bonding. It’s a cheap little trick to hide all of these sins and it can be done in just a single sitting.

Your teeth are cleaned so that a first layer of resin can be applied to the surface of the teeth and then ‘set’ with the use of a heat source. This is repeated quite a few times- at least until there is enough material to work with- then your dentist will shape the resin into the desired shape, before highly polishing the finished article.

The resin will be colour coded to match the rest of your teeth, so they will not stand out. The good thing is that if your have any problems in the future, you can go back and have a touch-up. It is the versatility of the treatment and its speed that makes dental bonding very popular to those of us on the go. However, they can also be porous and suceptible to staining, but if you watch what you put in the mouth and cut down the fags, coffee and wine you will get a lot of mileage from your dental bonding.

The tooth may be tender to the touch and hurt when there is a sudden change in temperature. You may also get a fever, but you know you are in trouble when your face starts to swell, which is when you should seek immediate action, as the condition can become life threatening in some cases.

If you can’t see a dentist, you should find a doctor and if it means going to the hospital, so be-it. The abscess can only be attacked and treated once you have been given antibiotics to stop the blood from becoming poisoned and to reduce the swelling.

Once the abscess has gone, your dentist can get to work on you. One of the biggest causes of this condition is tooth decay, so there is a good chance you will need a root canal and then have your gums cleaned, as well as your tooth deep below the gum-line.

The problem with an abscess is that they never really do go away and can flare up again at anytime, which means the only way to stop this from happening is to have the tooth removed. Of course prevention is better than cure and if you have had a problem with an abscess, it means that you are not looking after your teeth well enough and so should re-think your personal oral hygiene.

Sadly you may never win the battle, but you can at least try everything you can to educate them. You know the pitfalls and damage that too much sugar can do to your children’s teeth and body- they are bad for their minds and body and most importantly, their teeth, so you must try to impress this upon them as well.

However, the thing you mustn’t do is stop them altogether from indulging in sweets, otherwise they will do exactly the opposite. As they grow up, it is down to you to ensure they have a balanced diet throughout the day, which will help to counter any sugar intake. There are a lot of sweets on the market today that use sugar substitutes and you should try to wean them in this direction, as it will still seem to them they are not being prevented from eating sweets and candies.

Ensuring they grasp the importance of oral hygiene is also imperative and teaching them to keep their teeth and gums clean after the consumption of sweets is very useful. But there is also a certain way to avoiding tooth decay spreading in your kids’ mouths and that is to have them fitted with dental sealants. It won’t stop them pigging out on sweets, but it sure will prevent their teeth from rotting away.

This is rapidly becoming the treatment to have in Kingston-upon-Thames if you’re confronted with tooth loss in some form or other. It is a treatment that thanks to the laser, computer and 3D imaging etc, has become as easy to perform as having a veneer fitted.

It still sounds pretty painful, what with having a tiny titanium spike screwed into your jaw through your gums, but a laser does this with the utmost precision and with the minimal of damage, so that your mouth recovers quickly. It is so fast that you can have one fitted in a couple of hours.

Dental implants are starting to resign the dental bridge and dentures to the history books. The dental implant is robust and possibly better than the original root, as it will last for life and your teeth and gums are not as vulnerable to the abuse of bacteria. Your new teeth will also be very strong whilst looking unbelievable natural and restore the freedom to your mouth you may have thought you’d lost forever.

But the growth in the popularity of this treatment is not just borne out of how efficient and fast it is, it is also because the costs involved can be met by anyone. You can pay into dental insurance and payment plans that will help you to spread the costs if need be.

You should begin by ensuring they remain healthy throughout your life and this comes from good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups. Brushing three times a day followed by flossing should be enough to keep plaque from developing into complications such as gum disease and tooth decay. But you can also back this up by regular massaging the gums with herbal remedies to keep them stimulated and the blood flowing healthily.

Your dentist can also back you up by fixing anything that may go wrong. Of course, diet is important too and if you have a well balanced and healthy one, this will help to maintain a strong immune system that is able to fight bacteria in the mouth naturally.

But it’s not just about hygiene and diet. We put our teeth and gums in jeopardy everyday by what we eat, but if we are of a sporting nature, we will be doubling this jeopardy by putting our mouths in danger through injury. So we need to protect these areas by wearing a mouth-guard, something that also comes in handy if we suffer from teeth grinding. It all sounds a little complex, yet once fitted into your routine, your teeth and gums will remain as healthy as you.

Tooth decay can affect people of all ages, not just children with constant cravings for sweets. Very sugary foods and fizzy drinks certainly contribute to tooth decay, however, the most common culprit is inadequate brushing and flossing after consuming even a healthy meal. Tooth decay poses a serious threat to your oral health and can lead to a lot of pain, difficulty eating, and the loss of your precious teeth. Bad bacteria in your mouth feed off the sugar left on your teeth from anything you consume. They produce an acid that wears away at your teeth in a process known as demineralization. The process breaks down the hard tissues of your teeth and in severe cases of tooth decay, you will see pits and holes in your teeth. If you are genetically prone to more plaque and tartar build up, you are more vulnerable to tooth decay. If you are already suffering from gum disease, this also makes you a more likely candidate for tooth decay. When tooth decay becomes so severe that it rots away the core of your tooth, you will lose the tooth and need a dental implant or dentures. If caught early, tooth decay can be treated with a simple fluoride treatment or repaired with a filling by your dentist in Kingston Upon Thames.

Diet and what you put into your mouth each day are the two major causes of teeth erosion; at first, it can be easy to control with a good dentist and good oral hygiene. Acids and sugars are the greatest enemies of the tooth’s enamel and if not removed, can lead to such issues as tooth decay and gum disease. Watching what you eat and then ensuring that the teeth are clean afterwards should be enough to prevent the problem. But there is another thing that can lead to tooth erosion and that’s teeth grinding. Living within the confines of a busy city like London can put a lot of stress on the average person without them knowing it- that’s until you suddenly realise that you are starting to get jaw ache and neck problems, and then realise you are wearing away your teeth with constant grinding. This, aside from the fact that you are damaging your jaw, means that you are wearing away the enamel of the teeth as well, and again, you are veering into very dangerous waters when it comes to the health of your mouth. Any signs that you are having problems should be quickly addressed with the help of your dentist

Good oral hygiene is the first step towards winning the battle and if you have a look at the vast array of products in the shops from brushes and pastes to flosses and mouthwashes, you have a pretty good chance of stopping decay from taking hold. Then of course, by keeping up with bi-annual appearances at the dentist surgery, any signs of the problem can be thwarted at source, with cleaning, de-scaling, polishing and the odd filling. This should be enough to get your mouth through unscathed. However, take your eye of the ball, and you can find yourself in a world of hurt, both physically and financially. If tooth decay sets in, you are faced with some pretty hefty procedures from root canal treatment to tooth replacement, and they aren’t cheap either to rectify. Of course then, if the teeth get bad, you run the gauntlet of getting gum disease, leading to heart disease, and losing your teeth altogether. These reasons alone should be enough to scare you into looking after your teeth alone. Do some research into how to look after your teeth with your dentist and between the pair of you, you should be able to come up with a game plan for a healthy mouth.

Decay is a direct result of poor oral hygiene that has allowed bacteria to form plaque around the teeth, this can happen after only 20 minutes. If left, the plaque soon turns to tartar, then gum disease and then dental cavities start to form in the teeth, due to a relentless build up of acids on the tooth’s enamel. At this stage, the damage can be stopped with a simple filling. But again, if no action is taken, the teeth and gums can suffer from periodontitis that causes deep decay inside the tooth. This will now require root canal treatment to remove the bacteria from the roots and save the tooth. More dangerously a tooth abscess can develop. These can be life threatening, as they release poison into the bloodstream that damages the brain and heart. If this has rather scared you, it was meant to. Looking after your teeth and gums should be up-most in your daily routine and there are enough plaque busting products on the market to stop dental cavities from forming. Diet should also be taken into account as starchy and sugary food and drinks are the main causes of acids around the teeth.

If you’ve been rather bad of late in Surbiton, missed dental appointments and been rather frugal with your oral hygiene, you are at risk to exposing your teeth to decay. It normally starts by plaque acid eating away at the tooth’s enamel and forming a cavity. If left to carry on, the cavity will eat its way deeper into the tooth, through the pulp and into the roots. The problem with tooth decay is that it is cunning, and you may not realize that you are suffering from it until it starts to cause pain or worse, form an abscess. If you’re a regular at your dentist, they will be able to detect this at an early stage and simply administer a filling. But if you’ve ignored a regular check-up and the problem is well advanced, at best you may be able to save the tooth with a root canal, at worse the tooth may have to be removed all together. Then you’re into implants and bridges to ensure the rest of your mouth doesn’t suffer the same fate. Keeping your teeth clean is the key to fighting the problem to ensure that any sugary or starchy foods are kept off the teeth’s enamel, because these are the worst for promoting the bacteria and acids that cause tooth decay in the first place.
