But now hold onto your hats, because even in this department, the world of dentistry has cranked it up a gear by giving us CEREC. Some of the best restoration work to the mouth comes in the form of veneers, bridges and crowns and have proved over and over again their durability and beauty. However, the whole treatment cycle could take up to a few weeks, your parts having to be made in a lab miles away, a bit like a Jumbo-jet flying the Atlantic, but for the impatient amongst us who want to fly Concorde then CEREC is for you because you can get these treatments done in an hour and a half- max! Yes, while you sit in the chair and have pretty pictures taken of your treatment area, these will be fed into a computer and then into an in-house milling machine and while your fitting is being made, you will prepared. Then you are fitted and off you go and the good thing about this is that if there is a problem, it can be rectified there and then, and if you look at the costs involved, it is pretty comparable to the older ways…WOW!

If you have been neglecting your teeth and are suffering from a little tooth decay, there’s a good chance that you are going to have a root canal to save the tooth, or if you have lost the tooth altogether, have an implant to attach a crown to. You can pretty much have a crown made from anything that takes your fancy, but if you want to look natural, a porcelain crown is most definitely an option to consider. Fragile they may be but if you put a full porcelain crown towards the front of the mouth where biting stresses are not so intense, it will well and truly compliment the teeth around it. At the back of the mouth however, you may be better off opting for something a little stronger- like porcelain-over-metal crown that can take all the heat that you throw at it. For the health and natural beauty of your mouth, porcelain crowns will retain and support both of these elements and at a reasonable price too.

But, we are all human and can make mistakes when it comes to looking after our teeth even if we are using the best that dental companies can throw at us. The problem is, things can go astray very quickly in the mouth: plaque soon turns to tartar, and this can lead onto gum disease and tooth cavities and before you know it, tooth decay. When the problem is at level, you are going to have to have a root canal, followed swiftly by having a crown fitted. Dental crowns help to restore the shape of the tooth and ensure you retain the ‘bite’ of your mouth; they also help to keep the beauty of your tooth. You have a choice at this point as to what ‘style’ of crown you can choose- if you have the money you can have it made from anything that floats your boat, but you should also consider where the crown is to be fitted as different areas of the mouth go through different stresses. All porcelain crowns are pretty and look so natural, but they are the ‘weaker’ option so they would really be best at the front of the mouth. Gold and porcelain-on-metal crowns are toughies on the over hand and can take a good bashing- especially is you love your food so these would be your good choices towards the back of your mouth.

Having a smile you can be proud of means you will be showing it off at every opportunity. This will put others at ease in social occasions and means you will get along with people better. The boost this gives to your confidence will be huge. But how can you do this if you have lost a tooth or have a tooth that is broken down or cracked? Dental crowns might be the answer you have been looking for.

Dental crowns can be fitted over broken down teeth or placed where you have lost a tooth. They are basically replicas of teeth and modern dental crowns are incredibly life like, with your dentist able to match it to your surrounding teeth in terms of colour, shade and even texture.

They are also incredibly convenient to have fitted thanks to advances in technology. CEREC techniques allow your dentist to take a digital image or x-ray of your teeth and send it to an online milling machine. This machine can construct your dental crown in about six minutes and it will be ready to fit there and then.

Having matched the crown to your surrounding teeth, your dentist will clean the area of any debris and attach it using a strong dental bonding agent. The result is a lifelike appearance that is incredible durable. Modern dental crowns are usually made of porcelain which is extremely lightweight but extremely hard wearing.

In time you will even forget that you ever had a dental crown fitted because they can be treated just like regular teeth. If you would like more information, talk to your Sunbury dentist the next time you see him or her.

One of the most common reasons for a crown is after a root canal has been done, the root canal treatment removes the top of the tooth, or the front part, in order to allow the dental surgeon to get right into the inner chamber. The crown is made from Porcelain usually, and is made up on site to make sure that it looks as natural as possible. They are also known as a cap, and some of them are made off site by a dental technician to order. A cracked tooth or a chipped one will be taken care of by grinding down the enamel to illuminate the damage, then the crown will replace the missing part. It is generally fixed in position using dental cement, and will cover the whole of the ground down tooth. They are extremely hard wearing and will outlive the natural enamel on the other teeth. These days the cap or crown is used for a multitude of dental problems, worn teeth caused by grinding of the molars is a common enough one. Even teeth that are discoloured are being fitted with crowns. It isn`t always the first choice for many of these problems though, as veneers do to some extent also cover these problems. They last as long as a veneer which is between 5 and 15 years depending how you car for them, but like a veneer they can easily be replaced at any time.

When out teeth come under attack from tooth decay caused by plaque and bacteria, dental cavities begin to appear in our teeth. If these cavities are not addressed with treatment they will get bigger until the enamel is breached and plaque and bacteria can penetrate to the more sensitive central area of the tooth. This could be the cause of dental infection or abscess that will certainly be painful and often costly to treat.

One way of preventing this from happening is to use a dental filling to prevent the cavity from growing any larger. This involves using dental bonding to fill the cavity and solidify. However, in some circumstances, the cavity may already be too big and will require a greater degree of protection. This is when a Sunbury dentist may resort to using a dental crown. This is an artificial cap that is cemented over the whole part of the tooth above the gum line to protect it from further damage.

The process of fitting a crown first involves the removal of a certain amount of tooth enamel. This allows the crown to fit comfortably over the top of the existing tooth without appearing too large. The new crown, usually made from porcelain but they can also be made from metal including gold and silver, will have been specially designed and manufactured to fit into place. It will then be cemented in place using composite resin bonding.

Dental crowns are also used as the result of a number of other dental processes. For example, after a root canal procedure which is used to remove any traces of bacterial infection in the teeth. Because the tooth will have already been significantly damaged by the infection, a crown will be needed after surgery to protect the tooth from further infection. Dental crowns are also used to repair teeth that have been damaged by dental trauma such as cracks and chips.

Most people will have heard of dental crowns but many of those might not fully understand just how important and useful they can be. Dental crowns can protect, and in some cases save, damaged teeth and can also completely restore their appearance. New dental technology has also greatly improved the quality of dental crowns and slashed production timer to only a few hours.

So what exactly is a dental crown? In essence it is a cap usually made of ceramic, metal or a combination of the two that is fitted over an existing tooth that has suffered either structural or aesthetic damage. The crown is fixed using tooth coloured composite resin, which also adds another dimension of protection.

Crowns are used when teeth are cracked or broken due to some kind of head trauma or when the structure is undermined because of dental decay. The dentist will repair any damage as best as possible before removing some of the top layer of enamel to create room for a dental crown. Modern crowns are incredibly thin limiting the need for enamel removal, which is irreversible. The surface of the tooth is then etched to allow for greater grip before the crown is cemented over the top. A well fitting crown should cover all parts of the tooth that are proud of the gum offering complete protection from further damage and strengthening the tooth so the patient’s life is not adversely affected.

New computer technology available at Sunbury dentists has significantly improved the quality of treatment as crowns can be manufactured and designed using the amazing accuracy of three-dimensional imaging. This has also reduced appointment and treatment times for surgery making a dental crown a perfect solution to a variety of dental problems.

In the past, dental crowns required at least two visits to the dentist to fix. During the first visit the tooth would be filed down and an impression taken so that a crown could be manufactured in the laboratory. A temporary crown, usually made of plastic would be fitted to protect the tooth until the next appointment, which could be up to two weeks later. However, new technology means that dental crowns can now be designed and fitted in only a single visit to the dentist.

The leading exponent of this new technology is a company called CEREC. They are leading the way in single-visit technology, reducing appointment times for patients needing dental crowns and improving the overall quality of treatment. CEREC works by using three-dimensional imaging made possible by digital x-rays. These images can be produced instantly on a computer without the need for conventional developing. Using the images, a Surbiton dentist can then design a dental crown and visualise exactly how it will look when fitted.

The next step is then to manufacture the crown from a single piece of porcelain using a computer-guided mill. A single dental crown can be produced in less than ten minutes and because it is made from a single piece of porcelain it will be incredibly strong. It also means that crowns no longer need to be manufactured form part metal and part ceramic to provide the necessary degree of strength.

CEREC technology is revolutionising the way dental crowns are fitted and greatly improving both the level and time of treatments. CEREC can also be used to manufacture porcelain veneers and filling inlays to produce aesthetically stunning and durable dental repairs.

A crown is cemented over the top of a damaged tooth, covering the part exposed above the gum and protecting it from further damage. Crowns are also used to protect teeth that have had fillings or root canal treatments.

There are many ways a tooth can be damaged including chips, cracks or breaks. This can happen as a result of a head trauma received during sporting injury or car accident, or it could be something as simple as biting down on something hard when eating. Broken teeth can be very painful and need repairing to prevent exposure to further damage. The dentist will first attempt to repair a tooth using dental bonding but this is often inadequate for serious damage.

To fit a dental crown the dentist will first clean the tooth and remove any excess material. Then, using an instrument known as a burr, they will reshape the tooth removing some of the enamel to allow the crown to fit over the top. The surface of the tooth will then be etched and roughened to allow for greater grip before the crown is cemented over the top.

Crowns can be made of a variety of materials, including gold and silver for the more extroverted, but they are commonly made from porcelain or other ceramics. Porcelain is a perfect material for a dental crown because it is tough and durable, but also it naturally resembles the appearance of tooth enamel. Porcelain crowns can last up to fifteen years if cleaned and cared for correctly.

Crowns are increasingly manufactured using the very latest computer aided technology. 3D imaging and digital x-rays make it possible to design crowns on a computer screen and sculpt them from a single piece of porcelain in only six minutes using a computer-guided milling machine. Prices vary depending on the nature and size of the damage and what material you choose for the crown.

Dental crowns are very useful dental tools that can make the difference between keeping and losing a tooth. A well-made crown can offer years of protection for a tooth that could otherwise be a source of great pain and discomfort. If you are suffering with the pain of a broken tooth, make an appointment to see a Shepperton dentist and as about dental crowns

One of the most common dental injuries is a chipped, cracked or broken tooth. This is most commonly caused by sporting injury or some other head trauma, but can also be the result of simply chewing something hard. These types of injuries can be very painful but they can also lead to longer-term dental health problems if not repaired quickly. Initially, the dentist will try to repair the damage with composite dental bonding, made from tooth-coloured resin. If the damage is small this will usually be sufficient, but if the damage to the tooth is significant, the dentist may need to apply a dental crown in order to preserve its integrity and save the tooth.

Dental crowns can also be used for other dental repairs such as those caused by tooth decay. If decay has destroyed a tooth so badly, to the point that it is unable to support a filling, then a dentist will use a dental crown to support the tooth and shield it from any further infection and ultimately loss. In a similar way, after a root canal procedure when the cavity has been filled a dentist may use a dental crown to further strengthen the hollowed tooth and to restore its natural appearance.

Because dental crowns involve grinding down the existing tooth before they can be fitted, dentists have been reluctant to use them unless absolutely necessary. But with the advancements in dental technology over the past twenty years, dental crowns can now be manufactured that are so thin they can fit over existing teeth and dental work.

Modern crowns can be manufactured from a single piece of porcelain and can be as thin as a contact lens. This translucent appearance gives the illusion of real tooth enamel, and for the more extroverted patient, there is always the option of a gold or silver crown.

Dental crowns are now manufactured using the very latest in computer aided design and technology, meaning the dentist can use digital x-rays and 3D imaging to create a veneer to microscopic levels of accuracy. Production time has also been reduced from days or even weeks down to minutes, with crowns now designed, manufactured and fitted in a single appointment.

The dental crown is a strong and versatile dental repair that can be used both to save a tooth and enhance its cosmetic appearance. If you are suffering from a damaged tooth, or think a crown could improve your smile, make an appointment with a Sunbury dentist today.
