Gums may recede a little, causing the appearance of gaps at the top of the teeth, whilst the teeth themselves can become cracked and discolored.

Not the prettiest of reading true, but it isn’t the end of the world, because if you notice this happening, you can get it all covered up in Surbiton with a little dental bonding. It’s a cheap little trick to hide all of these sins and it can be done in just a single sitting.

Your teeth are cleaned so that a first layer of resin can be applied to the surface of the teeth and then ‘set’ with the use of a heat source. This is repeated quite a few times- at least until there is enough material to work with- then your dentist will shape the resin into the desired shape, before highly polishing the finished article.

The resin will be colour coded to match the rest of your teeth, so they will not stand out. The good thing is that if your have any problems in the future, you can go back and have a touch-up. It is the versatility of the treatment and its speed that makes dental bonding very popular to those of us on the go. However, they can also be porous and suceptible to staining, but if you watch what you put in the mouth and cut down the fags, coffee and wine you will get a lot of mileage from your dental bonding.

The words scalpel and drill do not exactly fill you with the comfort of thought that you are going to get a painless and beautiful treatment from your dentist, and that is a fair point- because generally you won’t, because the very nature of how a scalpel and drill works involves trauma and careful recovery.

But in many surgeries these days around Worcester Park, there is a new player in town that has revolutionized the way dental treatments are performed, the laser. This carries out work without doing hardly any damage to the teeth or gum tissue meaning that the procedure is virtually painless.

One such treatment is Water-lase, and incorporates a fine jet of water around the laser as it burns. It is so precise that treatments are carried out with the minimum of pain but with maximum efficiency and because little damage is done due to the lack of vibration, recovery afterwards is rapid.

Laser treatment has replaced the drill and you will find it being in all walks of life by your dentist; it can be used for teeth whitening, fillings, root canal treatment and gum contouring.

But possibly its flagship use has come in the placing of dental implants. This was once a complex operation, but now, thanks to the laser, it has become so easy and comfortable to do, getting an implant fitted these day is as simple as having a filling. Pain free dentistry though, come on, who ever thought that day would arrive?!

Sometimes a touch-up is good enough to get our teeth back into shape and this is where cosmetic bonding comes into its own. The first thing your dentist will do is take a color code of your teeth so that the resin can be mixed to match the rest of your teeth and then after a quick clean, the first layer of resin will be applied to the surface of the tooth and then ‘cured’. This will be done several times until there is enough resin for the dentist to work with and when there is, your tooth will be sculptured to the desired shape and then polished…and that is essentially all there is to it. And this can all be done in as little as an hour. If you have problems with it at any time, it is easily rectified by just touching up the resin again and then having it polished once more. It is this flexibility of being able to repair any altercations quickly that sets bonding aside from of similar treatments.

Of course it is best to try and avoid them in the first place but if they take hold then your dentist will need to fill them up. Cavities occur when plaque is allowed to stay on teeth for such a time that they erode the enamel and create holes. In order that the tooth won’t carry on decaying and become useless, dentists fill the holes up.

Traditionally it was always metal that was used for filling cavities. People of a certain generation will be familiar with the sight of black spots in peoples’ smiles where cavities have been filled using this method. It was always a slightly problematic way of doing it though because using metal for such a purpose doesn’t allow dentists to be as precise as they would like to be and sometimes the fillings would fail.

Dentists tend to fill cavities in a different way know. Cosmetic bonding is the new way that dentists carry out this essential work these days. Instead of struggling with metal, dentists can utilise cosmetic bonding that is involves a far more malleable combinations of materials. The results are far more successful in general because of the greater accuracy afforded to the dentists’ work. An added bonus is that cosmetic bonding yields tooth coloured fillings that are much better to look at.

Speak to your Surbiton dentist if you are suffering from cavities and are interested in cosmetic bonding. Many people are even having their old metal fillings replaced by the stunning, white fillings of cosmetic bonding.

It incorporates modern resins that are molded and then heat cured to your teeth and then highly polished to hide a myriad of sins on the teeth. Our teeth, by the very nature of this fast paced world, have to put up with a lot of harsh treatment and in time, it takes its toll- they get ugly. They can start to discolor, gaps can start to appear, may even get a chip. Bonding has the short fix answer to this- it can even replace those ugly metallic fillings that have a spiteful habit of discoloring the teeth too. In a single visit, you can get the ‘touch-up’ your teeth need to get them back to normal. Totally pain-less, the dentist will simply sculpture the resin onto the tooth to restore it to how it once was, leaving your teeth looking rejuvenated and fresh. And the beauty of this treatment is that it doesn’t involve damaging the natural enamel of the tooth like, say, veneers, it’s a simple ‘paint on’ procedure. In comparison to other cosmetic alternatives- it’s far cheaper too. So before your get caught up in the media hype of other cosmetic treatments, you may only need a little bit of bonding to make you feel special again!

It can be a painful problem and you might feel ashamed that you have let it happen to your teeth, but it is important that you go to your dentist and have them filled so that the problem does not get any worse. Cavities in the teeth can lead to them losing their structural integrity so you need to get them filled as soon as possible.

For many years the only option was to get metal fillings installed where the tooth has decayed away. Unfortunately this method could leave patients with unsightly looking dark patches in their smile and the metal that was used was not always that easy to work with because of the properties of it meant that dentists couldn’t always be that precise.

Thankfully all that is changing because of incredible cosmetic bonding techniques. What these changes basically amount to is that you can now have stunning white fillings which are matched to the colour of your surrounding teeth so are far more discreet. Even your closest intimates will find it difficult to tell that you have had your cavities filled. The dental composite that is used to fill cavities is far more malleable than the metal that used to dominate the procedure. This means that the fillings can be done with extra precision and they will stay far longer in the teeth.

If you are not wholly enthusiastic about metal fillings but know that you have cavities in your teeth, then you should talk to your Surbiton dentist about cosmetic bonding and how it can work for you.

But one of the most important factors relating to your choice is to make sure your don’t get caught up in the euphoria of what looks great from what you’ve seen on |TV and opt for the more expensive treatments, when you really don’t need them. If your teeth are generally, in good shape, then your dentist will probably advise you to have a ‘touch-up with some cosmetic bonding to restore your teeth to their former glory. It’s simple, cheap and just as affective as anything you’ve seen on the box. It’s a straight forward process: your teeth are prepped with an etching gel and then layer of resin are laid onto the teeth and ‘cured’ with a heat lamp until the tooth has been restored; then it’s sculptured and polished. This is a fantastic method for getting rid of old fillings, chips, gaps and cracks and great for plugging gaps and removing stains- they can even be coloured to suit your existing teeth.

But the main benefit of this treatment is that the minimum of damage is done to the enamel of the tooth. It’s not always considered to be the most durable of treatments around, but excellent if you’re in a rush and always on the go.

For many years now, millions of patients have had their cavities effectively filled by metal fillings. Cavities can be painful and inconvenient and ought to be rectified as soon as possible. The traditional metal solution to cavities has now been surpassed by cosmetic bonding techniques which are more aesthetically pleasing than metal fillings. The good news is that metal fillings can even be replaced using cosmetic bonding.

Made from fillers and acrylic resin, dental composite is a mouldable substance that is perfect for filling cavities in teeth. Such is the adaptable nature of the material, your dentist can select an appropriate shade and texture so that it matches your surrounding teeth. No-one will even know that you have fillings in your mouth.

Once your dentist has cleaned up the area in the mouth from debris and plaque an adherent gel is applied so that the bond has an extra firm hold on your tooth. A special light with ‘curing’ properties is shone onto the area, giving the bonding a special finish. Your dentist then buffs and polishes the area and the result is a barely noticeable solution to your cavity.

Modern techniques allow this process to be carried out even quicker than before too. Traditional x-rays would have to be sent off to a lab for development but their new digital equivalents can be carried out there and then with no development necessary. Contact your Surbiton dentist today to ask for more information about cosmetic bonding and how it can be used to fill cavities or replace unsightly metal fillings.

A dental amalgam is widely used in the field of dental restoration and is the most popular and commonly used material used for fillings. It is a composition of a variety of metals, chiefly containing mercury with a combination of other metals. It remains the material of choice due to the fact that its cost of manufacture is very low along with a number of other factors such as its strength, longevity, durability, bacteriostatic effects (its ability to stop the growth and reproduction of bacteria), and its ease of application. There are however a number of issues that have led to a decline in its use as of late in a number of countries. First aesthetically it is very different in terms of colour from the teeth due to its metallic composition so it does not blend whatsoever, making it a concern for a potential patient whom wants a filling that is unnoticeable particularly in the front teeth. This however is often addressed through the use of alternative restorative materials such as composite resins. In addition to this there is the fact that the amalgam is made from mercury a toxic metal which raises issues in two areas, first environmentally due to the hazardous emissions created during its creation and from its waste created during cremations. Secondly there is the fact that those whom have amalgams will be exposed to a daily dose of this toxic metal which has widely been a topic of debate since its inception. However there are a number of studies which have investigated and concluded that those who would experience effects of toxicity would be due to hypersensitivity or an allergic reaction and that amalgams are safe and effective for tooth restoration. However it is advised that those such as pregnant women or renal patients should not have amalgam fillings.

It sounds like it is some kind of glue or cement by its name, and it is, although not just an ordinary glue, says a Surbiton dentist. This bonding material is very malleable in that it can be used not just as a glue. One of its greater properties is that it can be used like Polly Filler is used on a cracked wall. Your dentist can get it in various colours, and so this makes it easy to match to the colour of the tooth. A cracked tooth can be filled and bonded to repair it, then smoothed down to hide the join. A chipped tooth can be repaired by applying bonding, and then using a shaper to smooth the whole tooth. This is good for minor repairs though, more seriously damaged or crooked teeth will need a veneer, however Cosmetic Bonding will again be used to do the repair. Once the veneer is made and is ready to be fitted, the bonding is used to secure and seal the veneer to the damaged tooth. As a tool, bonding is very much part of the kit that a dentist will have to work with, and with the flexibility it has it can have a 1001 uses. A dentist will need to specialise in this procedure as it takes a good deal of skill to shape a tooth using bonding alone, so make sure your dentist is one that can carry out this procedure. Teeth whitening can be also achieved by wiping and smoothing a thin layer of bonding in a bright white colour, it isn`t the best way of getting a whitening done, but for a single tooth it is an alternative.
